Each weekday on our FaceBook page you’ll find a prayer, reflection, or Bible verse centered around a weekly word. Each Friday we will share the recap of our FB posts here on our blog. Our hope is that we band together to devote our pregnancies, birth experiences and parenting to God our creator.
We want this to be a place for all of us to share our hearts, thoughts, blessings and challenges. Please comment and share so that we can together benefit from becoming #devotingmothers.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
Autumn is alive with color where I live. The trees are putting on a show of rich colors, the setting sun in the late afternoon glows, and the harvest moon seems to fill up the sky at night. Pumpkins, squash, and apples fill the farmer’s market and Starbucks have all their best drinks ready for order.
I love this time of the year, not just for the beauty and food, but also for the reminder. For what we plant in hope, we harvest in time. This week we will look at all that we can harvest as moms planting seeds in the lives around us.
“We must give more in order to get more. It is the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest.”
-Orison Swett Marden
Parenthood requires a long growing season before the harvest. We continually invest in our children, giving of ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Our hearts grow as we raise our children, from in utero until they leave our homes to start their own journey. Each unique season of parenthood has its bounty as well as times of drought. But through it all, our generous offerings will produce a harvest.
“Extraordinary individuals take one step back and two steps forward with most every challenge-and sometimes two steps back to one step forward. They harvest useful lessons and knowledge from what doesn’t work, and they display a remarkable resiliency; and ability to bounce back from adversity.” -Jerry I. Porras
In my childbirth classes, I always describe the second stage of labor as baby exits the uterus and makes his way down the birth canal as two steps forward and one step back. It’s some of the most difficult work a woman will do in her lifetime, but it reaps an incredibly sweet reward in the birth of a child. Wherever you are in your motherhood journey, expect both steps forward and steps back. Embrace where you are and enjoy where you will go.
“Care less for your harvest than for how it is shared and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace.”
Dear Father God,
Your Word teaches us that we reap what we sow. We pray for Your wisdom in our parenting. Allow us to see clearly that the small seeds we invest in our children today will be responsible for the future harvest. Allow love, wisdom, kindness, conviction and strength to grow. Give us patience, kindness, and self-control as we care for our children. And let us share beyond the walls of our own homes and invest in others around us. For if we all sow love, we will harvest peace.
Sow righteousness for yourselves,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the Lord,
until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.
